August 24th, 2008
The day after Touch-A-Truck.

I seriously will not complain about the fact that I never have enough time, because I volunteer for such events as this one- Touch-A-Truck.  Yes, it is for charity and it is a good advertising for the gallery, but HELLO do you really have to opt to spend you entire Saturday in August(might I add the busiest month of the season) painting faces.  This is what I was thinking as I reached for my phone at 7:15 in the morning- "Heidi, your tent has no top." I hear from a voice on the other end. ahhhhh

So I pull myself out of bed, get dressed, grab my bag full of paints, brushes, paper towels, and a mirror.  I then refuse to go directly to the event without something to drink and eat.  I choose a ginger beer and a bagel- Figuring the ginger beer would add a little spice to my life, really all it did was make me look like a drunk at 8:00 as I arrived at the Touch-a-Truck event.

I then proceeded to put up my tent and arrange my tools for the day- That took about 15 minutes and then I had an hour and 45 minutes to wait for my first client.  So I tried to catch a little shut-eye, ate my bagel, and talked to old friends.

And then the gates opened at 10:00 and it was a never ending line of eager children waiting for their face to be painted with dolphins, hearts, trucks, trains, dogs, butterflies, and miscellaneous characters from animated movies I have no idea about because I have no children.  Oh and did I tell you that this events was put on by the Mom's Club of Delaware- YES, there is a mom's club and No I am not part of it.  But I am friends with and related to many members including the president- who think I have all the answers to questions about the area in general- Where to get interesting truck?- call clean cut. Where to get sponsors?- call the new bank-.  Where to get a face painter- call Heidi- ahhhh I said it.

Oh and I forgot tot tell you about the Honking- No one told me that the entire day would be filled with the sounds of truck horns and that my tent would be place by undoubtedly the loudest one.  So all day as I tried to stay steady and paint kid's faces as I was scared out of my chair by the dump truck's air horn.

I have to say that the day was not that bad, I am always fine once I get where I am going.  I did have fun painting choo choo trains up little boys arms.  At 2:00 the day came to an end. 1500 guest attended the event and I painted 500 faces- Who knew one could do such a thing.   I also got to see 500 people walk around with Heidi Lowe Gallery bags. (I donated them as a nice gesture and an advertising stunt- really just to see what it would be like if the gallery gained extreme popularity- he he)

All in all a good day until I realized that I had to go to the gallery and work until 9:00.  Oh just another day in the life of HL.
